Hi everybody & welcome to the Victorian Report
It has been a slow few months with not much happening. We had a cruise to the Kuranga Native Nursery in Mt. Evenlyn on Sunday the 18th May with the intention of cruising on to Warburton for a BBQ/Picnic.
However, the weather was diabolical with constant rain all morning resulting in only 5 couples turning up and the cruise to Warburton being cancelled. Instead the Vennix family opened up their home and a few of us took up their invitation and had a lovely afternoon there. The Boys, talking, as always on their favorite subject and the girls checking out Lucinda's wonderful Scrapbook albums. Thank You Lucinda and Theo for your hospitality.
On Sunday the 16th June we were due to have an afternoon tea at our house but were invited to have some cars join 200 or so other cars in the Eastlink RoadShow commemorating the opening of the new Eastlink Freeway. The Thunderbird Club along with other Victorian Car Clubs were invited to register to take part in the opening of the new Eastlink Freeway which runs from Frankston to Ringwood, along with members of the public who could register to either walk or cycle sections of the road.
It was an early start as our designated meeting time at the start of the Eastlink freeway in Frankston was 9.20, the weather wasn't perfect but the slight drizzle we encountered wasn't going to be a huge problem. We were about 20 minutes early and wondered where to pull over when we encountered Romeo Stellato with his 3 boys, Theo and Lucinda Vennix and Jim and Irene Licciardo pulled into a car park as they had also arrived early and our instructions were that we were to arrive dead on time not a minute early or late!!
As it turned out we were sitting in a queue waiting to go until 12.10. We were finally on the move with our Police escort and a top speed of 40kms per hour. It is a 39km stretch of road and it took us approx 1 hour to complete passing a lot of cyclists and walkers on the way as well as many people standing on overhead bridges and walkways they were all greeted with many horn blows. It was a great cruise. We were then parked on the Freeway in Ringwood where there were 1000's of walkers and cyclist.
The day was well organised with food and drink stalls put on by Rotary as well as some entertainment for the children. We had 13 cars participate and everyone agreed although there was a lot of waiting around in the morning it was a great day and very well organised. Those that participated were:- Mario & Marion Farrugia, Theo & Lucinda Vennix, Bob & Noeline Bond, Terry & Reg Black, Peter & Anita Van Der Linden, Romeo Stellato & Boys, Jim & Irene Licciardo, Terry & Pat Wilms, Laurie & Irene Craddock, Ray & Judy Dove, John Georgantis, Neal & Carol Dean and Steve Gasson.
